The SPECTRAL Ami and Ami X (x-ray imaging) optical imaging systems provide a powerful in vivo imaging system in a user friendly bench top unit. The Ami and Ami X imaging systems are designed with state of the art components and great attention to detail to deliver a superb optical preclinical imaging unit. These systems are designed around SI Imaging’s rigid “strong back” backbone which serves as an “optical bench” coupling the sample and all imaging components in a stable spatial configuration. This structural integrity ensures highly accurate and easily reproducible images and calibrations, day in and day out, every use.

  • The SPECTRAL Ami and Ami X use a patented LED based illumination that eliminates the background inherent in white light for Fluorescence excitation.
  • The door to the Ami units opens vertically for ergonomics, maximizing valuable bench space and providing waste anesthesia gas control.
  • No external coolers are required, minimizing the number of components to fail or leak.
  • The Ami and Ami X allow the use of any commercials available gas anesthesia system for preclinical in vivo imaging.
  • The Ami can be upgraded to an Ami X to perform x-ray imaging for small animals.

  • Fluorescence Imaging (FLI)
    • SI Imaging’s unique patented ten LED array used for the SPECTRAL Ami and Ami X optical imaging systems’ fluorescence excitation source provides bright stable fluorescence illumination with tightly controlled wavelengths. The issues of maintenance, and calibration stability associated with lamp-based systems, are all eliminated by this advanced technology. An automated emission filter system can hold up to ten filters at a time, and any or all of these are user accessible and easily changed to create a customized configuration. Filters used in all SI Imaging optical imaging systems system employ the most advanced technologies to provide extremely clean and efficient wavelength transmission in the desired range. These high quality filters, coupled with the extremely narrow emission of the LED based system, virtually eliminate problems with out of band transmission.

  • Biouminescent Imaging (BLI)
    • Luminescence imaging is one of the most challenging imaging modalities, due to the relatively weak light emission can offer extremely high signal to noise ratios (SNR). Due to the deeply cooled cameras, SPECTRAL ultra-low noise images are collected for times ranging up to many minutes, if necessary, allowing the Ami or Ami X to provide the highest SNR achievable. The large format CCD and state of the art optics provide high quality images with large fields of view, while maintaining efficient light collection across the entire image. The Ami and Ami X optical imaging systems all include a custom-built air-cooled camera, thus avoiding the complexities and expense associated with liquid cooled systems.

  • X-ray Imaging
    • A 40 kV variable energy x-ray source is located in the bottom of the imaging chamber for x-ray imaging of samples positioned near the top of the chamber, where a state of the art Time Delay Integration (TDI) sensor resides. This sensor is a line scan design that moves rapidly across the entire optical image field to provide a co-registered x-ray image that can be used for BLI and FLI overlays. This high resolution imaging technology is increasingly used in digital x-ray imaging in all applications where a fast, large field of view, high-resolution image is required. The SPECTRAL Ami X optical imaging system brings x-ray imaging capability to you in an easy to use, versatile package, ideally suited for bench top laboratory use. The entire x-ray imaging option is fully automated, integrating into the software package, and easily used by researchers of any background, not only imaging specialists.

  • System Integration
    • Ami and Ami X optical imaging systems tightly integrate all imaging modalities into one easy to use, highly automated package. The system is designed with simplicity and functionality in mind, so that researchers need not be imaging experts to get accurate, quantitative results. The Ami and Ami X are factory calibrated to provide NIST traceable absolute optical intensity measurements. These optical images can be co-registered with optical, photographic or x-ray (if equipped) images to provide source location as well as strength. Images are automatically corrected for dark current, providing a final image that is precisely what the researcher needs. The user-friendly AMIVIiew software package allows users to rapidly collect and store images for post-imaging analysis, either on the systems own computer or on the user’s desktop computer (Macintosh or Windows) after the imaging session is complete. Analysis copies AMIView are free of charge to users.
